L’Hurluberlu Cabernet Franc Sébastien David 2020
Grape: Cabernet Franc
Suitable for Vegans: Yes
Suitable for Vegetarians: Yes
Food pairing: This medium-bodied red is a fantastic drinker but would certainly be a great friend to a myriad dishes. Try it with some rosemary and garlic baked Camembert with cranberry sauce, pork meatballs in tomato sauce with fresh basil or go vegan with earthy black lentils, roasted acorn squash and balsamic vinegar.
Sébastien David is a 15th generation winemaker, his family have been producing wine in the Loire since 1634. The 15 hectare domaine grows only Cabernet Franc on limestone and clay soils with a little gravel which allows for drainage – ideal conditions for cultivating high quality Cabernet Franc. Everything here is biodynamic, hand-harvested grapes are fermented with natural yeasts and contain no added sulphur. L’Hurluberlu is aged in clay amphora and is pressed by foot. The resulting wine is ripe yet restrained with aromas of blackcurrant cordial, raspberry coulis and fresh sorrel. The palate is an explosion of juicy bramble fruits, it’s not only soft and easy-going but also straightforward and focused, a truly beautiful thing. We recommend serving this slightly chilled and drinking in the shade alongside fruited light game dishes, grilled oily fish or even just a smoky BLT.
If you need something more serious from your Loire Cabernet Franc, you’ll love this from Domaine de la Chevalerie.
