Here’s a closer look at our case of Six Fresh Whites:
Entre-Deux-Mers Blanc 2019, Château Lestrille, Bordeaux, France
At Château Lestrille, Estelle Roumage makes modern, fruit-driven white wines.
A fantastic blend bringing intense aromas of citrus, lime and pear on the nose and unveiling an expressive mineral character on the palate. This wine is lively with good length and shows remarkable balance.
Coral do Mar, Albariño 2020, Rias Baixas, Spain
A gloriously fresh wine, lemon zest and sea salt provide length and balance.
The grapes come from Rias Baixas, a region propelled to stardom by the quality of its Albariño. This wine is full of expressive flavours from this area – fresh and zippy citrus notes with a light floral touch and a dash of minerality.
Oveja Dry Muscat 2019, Bodegas y Vinedos Fontana
Bodegas Fontana is a family winery (Cantarero Morales) with over thirty years of experience and tradition that has managed to surprise the industry by placing their wines in a prestigious place in the Spanish wine scene.
This young, fresh Muscat has fantastic stone fruit flavours backed up by long acidity and a floral nose. Honey, lychee and white grape with a peach and almond tart finish.
Picpoul de Pinet 2020, Dom. Font-Mars
Jean-Baptiste de Clock runs this estate (much older than the wine’s modern label suggests) close to Mèze and makes very fine Picpoul.
This Picpoul de Pinet is clean, lemony, taut and very dry but with an underlying depth and richness.
Verdeca ‘Talò’ 2020, San Marzano, Puglia
In 1962, 19 vine growers from San Marzano whose families had farmed the land for generations, combined their efforts to establish ‘Cantine San Marzano’. Through the decades this cooperative has grown significantly, attracting over 1,200 vine growers.
This is a bone-dry Verdeca which shows a richness of aromatics, white flowers, crisp green apple and a hint of honey. Full flavoured, with a creamy texture and a long and intense finish.
Grüner Veltliner 2019, Eschenhof, Wagram
Arnold Holzer’s classic and vibrant style of Gruner Veltliner from the clay soils of Wagram in Austria. Holzer took over the estate in 2010, aged just 23.
Expect buckets of lemon zest, white pepper hints of fennel and rose, and great acidity with a slight Jasmine tea finish.
Food Pairing: Don’t hesitate to pair this with soft cheese or South Asian pork dishes.
