Bel En Blanc NV, Bordeaux, France
This is a pure muscadelle with marked tones of orange blossom, very aromatic with hay and lees on the nose and white peaches and big tropical fruits on the flavoursome palate with dried fruits and honey. The tannic structure makes it possible to compensate for its generosity in alcohol.

From Olivier Cazenave at Chateau de Bel
“As I often deplore the lack of variety and choice in our Bordeaux grape varieties and that Muscadelle is one of them, I took a little time to think about it. It is unfortunately very rare in the vineyard and each time blended (at a low percentage) with Sauvignon and Sémillon so a little drowned. Because Muscadelle is not easy to grow or to assemble: ripe it lacks acidity and not ripe enough it lacks interest.
I already use it quite a bit for my “Echappée Bel” White, up to 60% because I’m not a real fan of Sauvignon in Bordeaux (for personal taste). And then I wanted to work it 100% with the aim of making a meal wine, complex and concentrated, completely out of step with what you can find in Bordeaux. It was at the end of 2.5 years of aging in demi-muids that the balance seemed interesting to me: the aging came to structure the wine and above all gave it a tannic freshness that compensates for the lack. acidity of the grape variety”
