Description

Malbec Le Pur Fruit du Causse 2018, Cahors, France £15.25

The Ilberts have been growing vines in Cahors since 1901, bottling their own wines since 2005, and current vignerons Julien and Sophie today farm 22 hectares on the highest reaches of La Causse, an old Occitane word for the region’s limestone plateau.

Bright, intense purple colour, recognisably Malbec with bramble fruit and grip, yet at just 12.5% alcohol it’s a genuine vin de soif – even for serving slightly chilled in warmer summer months. Radically brilliant.

Malvasia Nera ‘Talo’ 2017, San Marzano, Puglia, Italy £12.75

In 1962, 19 vine growers from San Marzano whose families had farmed the land for generations, combined their efforts to establish ‘Cantine San Marzano’.

An intense and complex bouquet of ripe red fruits combined with hints of spice. A full-bodied wine with delicious flavours of Morello cherry, thyme and vanilla notes through to a smooth finish. Huge bang for buck!

Château de l’Herbe Sainte ‘Tradition’ 2018, Minervois, France £12.75

The delightful Domaine de L’Herbe Sainte, in the Eastern Minervois, is just on the edge of the delightful small village of Mirepeisset.

The Greuzard family produce a lovely, rich, spicy red, Minervois Tradition,  from their own vineyards surrounding the property.

The blend is Syrah dominant with Carignan and Grenache Noir as well. All the grapes are de-stemmed. There is only a very light filtration and ageing is in stainless steel.
Bright, deep red with a very typical nose of black fruit, black olive, cedar and garrigue. On the palate, a dense fruit led wine with well-integrated tannins and the same, delicious rich southern range of aromas.
